The stories themselves range from magical little fairy tales to stories about a man who decides to have sex with 11-12 girls in a night. Nabokov wrote “Skazka” [“A Nursery Tale”] in 1926 before it was published in Rul', a Berlin emigre newspaper that was founded by his father.When Nabokov translated the story before it was published in Details of a Sunset (1976) and Playboy (1974), he aggressively titled it “A Nursery Tale” and noted in Tyrants Destroyed and Other Stories that when he was translating the story he I bought this book because it included the short story 'Signs and Symbols', which I saw at the top of a list of 50 best short stories of all time. It was a wonderfully written piece of only about five pages, and it inspired me to read more. Nabokov has a beautiful free flowing and yet poetic style, and I can highly recommend this volume.
